It's been almost three months since I've posted a new entry. That's a lot. That's the biggest gap I've ever taken since the creation of this journal in 2003 (ninth birthday in a week!). And really, the only excuse I have is that I've started to feel like I've run out of things to say. Or at least things to write about at length. Life isn't all that exciting at the moment.

And, to be fair, it's not like Livejournal is all that active anymore. It's incredibly evident on the few entries I have posted. I can catch up on my f-list every morning within a minute. People have moved on to other platforms and to be honest, so have I. I swore that I wouldn't become one of "those people", but I did.

Tumblr is so much better for exposure for an artist. I hate that it's difficult to comment on each other's posts and you lose that sense of community that I've felt here, but I think it's a good place for me to post things.

This isn't me shutting down completely. I still read (most) of the posts on my f-lists and I comment every now and then. I just... won't be posting here as often. Maybe when the mood strikes me.

Anyway, I'm @jigglykat at Twitter and you can follow my artwork, multi-fandom reblogs and the occasional silliness at jigglykat.tumblr.com.

So I have just realized that most of my posts lately (you know, when I do post them) are all about video games.

Recently, I’ve been going to friends’ houses to group-watch games being played, which is usually my preferred method of playing. Most of my friends here are gamers, and they are much more hand-eye coordinated than I am. Right now, we’re in the midst of Resident Evil and Amnesia. And this post is about Amnesia.

I heard whisperings of the game being the Scariest Thing Ever, and thanks to a charity event, my pals purchased it for reasonably cheap. The premise of the game is you wake up in a dark and spooky castle and you have amnesia (DUR). You wander around said castle, solving puzzles, uncovering props you pick up and journal entries where you slowly piece together that you’re a man named Daniel and you willingly had your memory wiped. While you wander around, you hear screaming and growling in the distance. You soon learn that there’s evil in the castle, a monster that’s patrolling the halls and this weird fleshy stuff that grows over the walls and floors.

The neat part about the game is that it’s a game about stealth. You have no weapons and you’re basically only supplied with a lantern, so if the monster is nearby, you go and find a hiding spot so he doesn’t see and kill you. There are wardrobes and nooks and crannies everywhere for you to duck and hide in. BUT. It’s a dark castle, so if you spend too much time in the dark, your character’s sanity starts to dissolve and the walls start to pulse and warp. And if you actually see the monster, your sanity is gone (it’ll just say “…”) and the controls are difficult to control. You pick up tinderboxes along the way to light candles and standing in the light soothes you.

I think what helps make this game so scary (aside from us being wimps), it that most of the game relies on sound design, so you’re imagining everything to be way worse than it probably is. And there’s a building creeping tension throughout the game, so when you turn a corner and see the monster, it shocks you.

Anyway, we recorded a few vids of decently scary parts. They’re not great and you barely see the monster, but you certainly hear our commentary and reactions.

So my Twitter and Tumblr is full of DW filming spoilers. Normally, I'd be upset about this, but the location of it is making me fangirl stupidly. I'll cut for obvious reasons.

I saw Justice last night and it rocked my socks off, had I actually been wearing socks. It's been insanely beautiful weather for the past few days, so I've been taking advantage and wearing flippies. Flippies. In Boston. In March. <3 <3 <3

The show was great. I've never been to an electronica show before, so I didn't know what to expect. It was a lot of remixes, but just mashing up their own songs with other songs. SO BEAUTIFUL. Lindsay and I were going to flip our collective shit if they played this song:

But alas, no dice. They just played their own stuff. Busy P opened for them and he remixed some other songs. I'd like to thank basalt and TT for keeping me current with songs.

Now I just need the hearing to come back in my right ear. WORTH IT.

Hello? Are you still there? /turret voice

I’ve had this song on constant repeat for the past few days. It’s an orchestral medley of a bunch of the songs from the game, which at times, to me, sounds very Doctor Who-ish. I don’t care if you play Portal or not… JUST LISTEN. I love the bit at 5:05 where the violin melts You Know Her? into Exile Vilify EARGASMSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I’m so impressed by this fandom, and the My Little Pony fandom for that matter, to constantly making awesome music. There’s a little of that in DW, but not to this extent and quality, I think.

So, there’s this great site called Turntable.fm that I’ve been using for months where you join a room and DJ. You can upload music or find something in the Turntable library. It’s a bit finicky, but it’s so much fun and it’s a great way to chat with friends and listen to some new tunes. My iTunes library is so full of delicious new stuff (it’s where I got the song above).

In one of our chats, it was decided that if Wheatley had an iPhone, he’d totally think that Siri was his girlfriend. So I animated it. Spoilery for the end of Portal 2!

I also broke out of my shell of keeping most of everything I draw under PG. I have no issues with porn or whatever, I just prefer not to draw it. But after I read The Itch, I was… inspired.

Anyway, I’d say it’s NSFW, just as a precaution… there’s nudity, but nothing is showing. It was just a test to try some new inking/coloring techniques.

Fanart ahoy!Collapse )

Iiiii… love them… SOOOOO MUCH.

I had an excellent time at Gallifrey this year. I owe a write-up, but I've actually been plagued with concrud for once and I feel miserable. I'll write something up in a bit when my brain is functioning a bit more.
